Kazemi Closes FIBA World Championship With Double-Double

Rice University sophomore Arsalan Kazemi concluded his first FIBA World Championship by equaling a tournament high when he grabbed 14 rebounds to go with 13 points in Iran’s 65-60 loss to Slovenia Thursday.

Kazemi’s only double-double of the tournament, helped Iran stay in sight of an upset bid but in the end fell short against a Slovenian team which improved to 4-1 and will advance out of Group B play and on to the “Eight-Finals.” Iran ended pool play with a 1-4 record.

In five games in Group B, Kazemi averaged 12 points while shooting 48.7 percent from the field. His 14 steals in five games was the most by a player through the preliminary round of the championship. He also finished in a tie for ninth in rebounding average at the tournament, pulling down 7.4 rebounds per game.
