March Madness in El Paso

Pending approval by the league's Board of Directors early next month, the 2011 Conference USA Men's and Women's Basketball Championship will be hosted by UTEP.

Three presentations were made to the athletics directors during Conference USA's Spring Meetings on the site for the basketball championships with El Paso getting the majority vote. Memphis and Tulsa also presented.

"The group was very impressed by the quality and comprehensiveness, including the financial guarantee, in the El Paso proposal," C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky said. "We felt confident we would have a great experience."

Other recommendations which will presented to the board which affect basketball are listed below.

1. Modifying video exchange platforms for men's and women's basketball to all be digital.

2. Creating a policy for men's and women's basketball to receive approval from the conference office regarding non-conference scheduling.

3. Proposing modifications of the men's basketball revenue distribution to financially reward on the basis of the number of non-conference Division I wins.

4. Recommending a new five-year Strategic Plan

The Conference USA Board of Directors will meet in Dallas on Monday, June 7.
